The 5 Minute Lesson Plan© simply aims to reduce planning time for teachers. This online tool has been developed by Angel Solutions working in partnership with Ross Morrison McGill of @TeacherToolkit.

The 5 minute lesson plan…

  • Why was The 5 Minute Lesson Plan developed?
The 5 Minute Lesson Plan format was designed by @TeacherToolkit (Ross Morrison McGill) in 2012 with the specific aim of helping teachers plan their lessons quickly and effectively. We hope this digital version of The 5 Minute Lesson Plan will help make life easier for hundreds more teachers as they start to build up online portfolios full of amazing lesson plans that they can continue to adapt over time. We have even adapted the tool in response to teacher feedback, making it completely customisable and suitable for multi-purpose planning!
  • Is The 5 Minute Lesson Plan designed for Ofsted inspections?
No, the 5 Minute Lesson Plan was never designed for Ofsted inspections and is not meant to belittle the cognitive process used in lesson planning. It was originally designed to help formalise the process needed to improve practice in the classroom, placing the focus on learning rather than the activity. It also aims to help teachers reduce planning time, particularly new teachers who so often report lesson planning as a burden.
  • Do Ofsted accept its use?
Yes! But remember, it was never designed for this purpose and Ofsted do not require to see a lesson plan. "Do not focus on the lesson structure at the expense of its content or the wide range of other evidence about how well children are learning in the school."
  • Will The 5 Minute Lesson Plan help me achieve 'Outstanding' teaching?
Not necessarily. A lesson plan is one small part of the enormous range of components needed to become a 'good' teacher. (It's also not our place to define what is a 'good' or 'outstanding' teacher!)
  • Is The 5 Minute Lesson Plan copyright protected?
The 5 Minute Lesson Plan is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported License. This means any adaptations are still the copyright of @TeacherToolkit Ltd.
  • What are the benefits of paying for a subscription?
With the Free Trial of the 5 Minute Lesson Plan available on this website, you can only create and download a pdf of one-off lesson plans, using the Original 5MLP template we designed. For the small price of £36 per year for a Personal Licence, a teacher can access the Full 5 Minute Plan tool. This would allow a teacher to use our advanced customisable plan and template tool, to save and build up a database of plans (for any purpose, not just lessons!), and to share resources with the wider teaching community.
